Permaculture and its Potential in Earth-Based Spirituality

With Dana O’Driscoll, Grand Archdruid and Druid Adept, Ancient Order of Druids in America; Certified Permaculture Designer and Permaculture Teacher

How can permaculture be a tool for changing the world—and helping us build deeper connections to the living earth? What is the potential of permaculture as a tool for exploring paganism and earth-based spiritual traditions? How can permaculture’s ethics and design principles offer us a roadmap for sacred actions in the world?  In this talk, Dana O’Driscoll will offer some insights and answers to these questions by exploring permaculture’s ethics and design principles through the lens of paganism. Permaculture’s ethics: people care, earth care, fair share—and her addition—spirit aware— can help offer us a clear method of interacting with all beings, physical or metaphysical. Permaculture’s principles for design can help us bring about a better future for all life on this planet.   By sharing examples of permaculture in action, participants will have a set of useful tools through which to explore and expand their nature-based spiritual practices into their daily lives.

About Dana O’Driscoll

Dana O’Driscoll has been an animist druid for over 18 years, and currently serves as Grand Archdruid in the Ancient Order of Druids in America. She is a druid-grade member of the Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids and is the OBOD’s 2018 Mount Haemus Scholar. She is the author of Sacred Actions: Living the Wheel of the Year through Earth-Centered Spiritual Practice and is a writing professor with extensive journaling experience. Dana is a certified permaculture designer and permaculture teacher who teaches sustainable living courses and wild food foraging.  Dana practices permaculture at a 5-acre homestead in rural western Pennsylvania with her partner and a host of feathered and furred friends; there they work to engage in regenerative agriculture, conservation, and communion and develop approaches for wild tending, rewilding, and living in reverence with the living earth. She writes at the Druids Garden (www.thedruidsgarden.com) and is on Instagram as @druidsgardenart.

The Earth-based Spirituality Action Team is for anyone who keeps the sacred Earth at the center of their practice. We see action on climate change as an urgent moral imperative. We aim to reach out into our global communities and recruit volunteers for Citizens' Climate Lobby. We recognize and honor the spiritual nature of climate work.
