About Rev. Char Bear

Rev. Charlotte “Char” Bear is an ordained minister with Circle Sanctuary with over 25 years of interfaith ministry experience. She identifies with Celtic Druidry and eco-feminist Wicca and has studied both extensively. She is co-ordained with the Order of Universal Interfaith (OUNI) as an “eco-minister.”

Professionally, Bear works as a clinical spiritual care and counseling specialist for people living with serious illnesses.

She currently lives at the Monterey Bay marine sanctuary along the Central California Coast, the traditional lands of the Ohlone [Oh-low-nee] people, and home to many endangered and beloved marine species.

With Circle Sanctuary, Bear leads the GreenFaith Circle, a ministry focused on eco/climate activism, which includes monthly zoom gatherings, special events, and a Face Book page, in solidarity with GreenFaith International. Bear also serves as a lead advisor to Circle’s professional chaplaincy program. She helps to lead Full Moon Circles, rituals/classes/workshops at holiday festivals and at Pagan Spirit Gathering. Bear is one of Circle Sanctuary’s podcasters, hosting and producing Blue Marble Podcasts monthly dedicated to eco-activism and climate justice from a pagan perspective. She was a presenter at the 2021 Parliament of the World’s Religions. As a Climate Reality Leader, trained by former VP and Nobel Laureate, Al Gore, Bear brings together working knowledge of the climate justice movement with nature-based spirituality. Prior to professional ministry, Bear was a professional broadcast journalist and actor. She is also an award-winning US Army Veteran, having served as the first woman broadcast journalist deployed to conflict areas for the Pentagon during the 1980s.
