Doing a 12 Book challenge for 2023

Started this in my facebook groups and Discord. Got 12 books recommended by other people to read during the year. Some of the books are  more of a year long read than a read in a month sort of things. Looking forward to it and have already started.

1 The Real Witches Year by Kate West. (Has daily readings for the year. Covered a wide range of topics in single page doses)
2 Destiny of souls by Michael Newton (Study of life between lives through past life regeneration)
3 Sacred Actions by Dana O’Driscoll (wide variety of accessible sustainable-living activities, rituals, stories, and tools framed through the neopaganism eightfold Wheel of the Year.)
4 Witches of America by Alex Mar (memoir of Alex Mar’s immersive five-year trip into the occult, as both a journalist and someone searching for her own faith. She explores modern Paganism)
5 Sacred Gender: Create Trans and Nonbinary Spiritual Connections by Ariana Serpentine (Explore gender from a sacred perspective and learn how to turn dysphoria into euphoria. With suggestions for making devotion more inclusive)
6 Living Myth: Personal Meaning as a Way of Life Paperback by D. Stephenson Bond (explores the dilemma of how to live life creatively at a time when the dominant myths of our culture are losing their power to give meaning to our lives)
7 Bringing Race to the Table: Exploring Racism in the Pagan Community by Crystal Blanton (Author, Editor), Taylor Ellwood (Editor), Brandy Williams (Editor) (Exploring Racism in the Pagan Community is an anthology which explores the topic of racism and how it shows up in the Pagan community)
8 Seven Goddesses of the Hellenistic World: Ancient Worship for Modern Times by Jo Graham (introduces you to the history and mythology of seven Hellenistic goddesses and teaches you how to work with each one in your spiritual practice)
9 Woodruff's Guide to Slavic Deities Paperback by Patricia Robin Woodruff PhD (Author), Anita Allen (Author), Marge Schwegel (Editor) (look at the ancient beliefs of the people that lived in the Slavic lands)
10 Irish Witchcraft from an Irish Witch by Lora O’Brien ( delightful mixture of academia and accessibility; a book that explores Witchcraft in Ireland: how it was, is, and will be.)
11 Earth Works: Ceremony in Tower Times by Byron Ballard ( Earth Works is a book of essays and rituals for a time of deep cultural change, a shift that author Byron Ballard calls “Tower Time.” The first part of the book explores scenarios in these chaotic times and suggests possible reframing to understand the historic underpinnings and the long-term effects on both the planet and its inhabitants.)
12 The Path of Paganism by John Beckett (Paganism is a way of seeing the world and your place in it. It means challenging the assumptions of mainstream society and strengthening your relationships with the gods, the universe, your community, and your self. )

  • Sounds like a great challenge. One question though do they all have to be first read throughs? As I like to reread my books after a few months to see if I pick up on information I overlooked during my initial read thoughs. Eitherway I think I will take up this challange as a way to clear out my ever growing Amazon wishlist  (Besom, Stang & Sword: A Guide to Traditional Witchcraft, the Six-Fold Path & the Hidden Landscape by Christopher Orapello) will be the book for this month.  I'll do updates as I select the monthly book.

  • The Art of Witch (2019) by Fiona Horne. I read a lot, and so have too many suggestions, but this one is fresh on my mind as am completing it this very evening. A beautiful, deeply empathetic expression of embracing wonder and possibility into our practice and moments of our life, living simply so you can live gracefully, and using the most potent form of magick -- that which empowers a life of service.
